A few from today:
Know the fine print. Unlimited data isn’t really unlimited. I received a text from AT&T last month saying:
Here’s what I found in a post from Gizmodo re unlimited data:
If you have a smartphone that works on our 3G or 4G network and still have an unlimited data plan,
- You’ll receive a text message when your usage approaches 3GB in one billing cycle.
- Each time you use 3GB or more in a billing cycle, your data speeds will be reduced for the rest of that billing -cycle and then go back to normal.
- The next time you exceed that usage level, your speeds will be reduced without another text message reminder.
If you have a 4G LTE smartphone and still have an unlimited data plan, the same process applies at 5GB of data usage, instead of 3GB.
Under my contract I am grandfathered in with “unlimited data”, but there’s a penalty once I reach 3GB. For the average user 3GB per month is a lot of data, but in the coming years, with our dependency on mobile it will not be — especially with streaming entertainment (Netflix and Hulu+) and communication. If you are about to renew your contract with AT&T think about what type of data usage you are going to need… specifically if you do not plan to have Wi-Fi at home. For other carries with unlimited data try: Sprint, T-Mobile or Solavei
In my experience everyone wants it but very few are willing to pay the price. I’m talking about Creativity. It probably doesn’t happen in the office… because you’re (stuck) in the office. Secondly, if it’s not a part of the culture things are going to have to change. If it’s always work-work-work and no “creative time” then you are not going to fertilize creativity.
One of the guys from my One Institute class, Kevon Saber, writes about 3 Ideas for Cultivating Creativity at Work posted today in Fast Company. It should be no surprise that Kevon’s third point, Work and Surf is my favorite and why I’m convinced that most surf brands and many good ideas were birthed close to a beach (& break).
