I think this pic says it all. You have to be PREPARED for the worst case scenario, ESPECIALLY when you live on an ISLAND with MILLIONS of other people. It appears that hurricane IRENE has been downgraded from a 3 to a 1, and that her winds are less than expected – but the storm isn’t over and IRENE has not hit NYC. Plus, we have no idea what the STORM SURGE will do to lower Manhattan and the outer boroughs. I say BE PREPARED for the worst… cause you never know what might happen after IRENE with MILLIONS of people out of: water, electricity, cable, internet, Starbucks, and the MTA.

For us it was leaving NYC.  That simple. Not waiting around until a MANDATORY EVACUATION occurred. Here’s why:

• We live on the A & B zone, so there is chance of major flooding (we’re close to the Hudson River).
• We live on the 25th floor of a glass building (floor to ceiling windows) we would have to relocate the basement with high winds — not going to happen.
• We didn’t want to get stuck in NYC, staying in NJ allows us to drive west!
• It’s always nice to take a break from the jungle.

So after work yesterday we hopped on NJ Transit and trained-it out to NJ. I’ll continue to post pics as the storm arrives…
